Week Nineteen: Empire Records - Edwyn Collins - "A Girl Like You" - Empire Records Soundtrack

+++++++Spoiler Alert+++++++

I will be revealing what happens throughout the course of the film as I am simultaneously speaking about the soundtrack; so you might want to go watch it before reading these posts...

Although it was Corey's intention to sleep with Rex Manning, it ends up being Gina, the "turbo-slut", who does the deed with Mr. Manning in the money count out room while this song is playing.

If you have never heard this song, or even if you have heard it but have never seen the video, today will be full of awesomeness for you.  First of all, the song is amazing and intense.  Secondly, Edwyn Collins has sported a super-fly Rockabilly look for a huge portion of his life, and his style was impeccable when he was younger.  Finally, the video was artfully created and even includes film clips that are cleverly and seamlessly woven into the action taking place within the video.  Prepare to be dazzled!!

I've never known a girl like you before
Now just like in a song from days of yore
Here you come a knockin', knockin' on my door
And I've never met a girl like you before
You give me just a taste so I want more
Now my hands are bleeding and my knees are raw
Cause now you've got me crawlin', crawlin' on the floor
And I've never known a girl like you before
You've made me acknowledge the devil in me
I hope to God I'm talkin' metaphorically
Hope that I'm talkin' allegorically
Know that I'm talkin' about the way I feel
And I've never known a girl like you before
Never, never, never, never
Never known a girl like you before
This old town's changed so much
Don't feel like I belong
Too many protest singers
Not enough protest songs
And now you've come along
Yes you've come along
And I've never met a girl like you before
