Week Eighteen: Synthpop - Apoptygma Berzerk - "Near" (Banilla Dream Version) - The Singles Collection

By the end of 2000, I had called it quits with the Synthpop band that I played in for just about a year.  I was simply not cut out to be a rock star, and the guys were very understanding.  I also really wanted to focus more time on finishing up school.

Instead of attempting to replace me with another female, they recruited a guy from a band that we used to play shows with quite frequently.  I appreciated that greatly!

Not long after I quit, the band was scheduled to play a Synthpop festival in Houston called the TransCommunion Festival, and the main acts were Echoing Green, Iris, and Apoptygma Berzerk.  Sadly, the relationship that I was in at that point was on very shaky ground, and I had way too much to drink that night.  I remember being at the club, and I remember meeting and shaking hands with the guys in Apoptygma Berzerk.  However, I don't remember much more than that.

While I was still in the band, we did a cover of this song, "Near".  It was relatively easy to play, and I loved when I would see it on our set list.  Please, please, please check out the rest of Apop's songs... they're good!!!  I have included another favorite, "Non-Stop Violence", below the lyrics.

You are reaching your goals
But I'm still trapped inside of mine
Before the break of day
You will be gone and far away

In solitude
With no place to run or hide
I hear my own mind cry
And I fall just to see you rise

And I will go down on my knees
And pray the best that I can
I want you to be near...
And I will go down on my knees
And try to make you understand
My deepest fear

With pain in my heart
I will travel on my own
To a place inside
Where I can be alone

In solitude
With no place to run or hide
Again I hear this voice cry out
And I fall just to see you rise

And I will go down on my knees
And pray the best that I can
I want you to be near...
And I will go down on my knees
And try to make you understand
My deepest fear

In solitude
With no place to run or hide
I hear my own mind cry
And I fall just to see you rise

And I will go down on my knees
And pray the best that I can
I want you to be near...
And I will go down on my knees
And try to make you understand
My deepest fear

And I will go down on my knees
And pray the best that I can
I want you to be near...
And I will go down on my knees
And try to make you understand
My deepest fear
