Week Twenty-Two: Movie Melodies - Madonna - "Into the Groove" - Desperately Seeking Susan Soundtrack

The first time I heard and saw Madonna was back in 1984 when my parents purchased cable from a door-to-door saleslady and added the Disney Channel to our package. No, it was not on the Disney Channel that I saw her, Goofy – yeah, I'm talking to you! :-)

It was on MTV that I saw her doing her crazy kick dance to “Lucky Star”. I actually knew every move to that dance at one point, but my mom wasn't exactly happy to see me provocatively rolling around on the floor like that – I was 7-years-old at the time.

I did not see the movie, Desperately Seeking Susan, where this song really hit it big with me, until I was around 9- or 10-years-old. I was staying over at some “friend's” house – it was one of those pity friendships, where my parents were friends with her parents, which automatically forced me to be friends with her.  She had her own V.C.R., and her parents took us to the video store and let us check out a film.

I didn't know what a V.C.R. even was or what it meant to “check out” a film; so I let her lead the way. She assured me that I would love this movie, and I loved this movie! To this day, as a result of being exposed to this film, I still enjoy reading the Personals and Missed Connections in newsprint. Although it's very rare to see them anymore, it brings back such fond memories of this movie and of this song...
