Week Twenty-Two: Movie Melodies - Harry Belafonte - "Jump in the Line (Shake Senora)" - Beetlejuice Soundtrack

This energetic little tune has popped up at various times throughout my existence. My initial exposure to it was through the film, Beetlejuice, back in 1988. It appears towards the end of the film when Lydia, played by Winona Ryder, is lifted to the top of the staircase and starts a mid-air jig with spirits in football uniforms.

More recently, it worked its way onto my Pandora radio station. I don't know what it is about this song, but not only does it make me want to start a solitary conga line through my house, it makes my little chihuahuas nutty too! They chase each other back and forth and up and down the hallway at top speeds until this song concludes.

It is also fun to blast this little tune at full volume with the windows down through the streets of East Dallas. I realize I may be risking getting shot, but the looks I receive are priceless! :-D

Shake, shake, shake Senora, shake your body line
Shake, shake, shake Senora, shake it all the time
Work, work, work Senora, work your body line
Work, work, work Senora, work it all the time
My girl's name is Senora. I tell you friends I adore her.
When she dances oh, brother,

You can talk about cha-cha, tango, waltz or the rhumba.
