Week Fourteen: Mixed-Tape Madness - Sleeper - "Sale of the Century" - The It Girl

Week Fourteen will be dedicated to the most awesomely awesome mixed-tape that I ever received from someone with a Y-chromosome (that would be a male, for all of you who slept through science class - shame on you!!!)

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

After the semi-shock of the second Pulp tune, I moved through Song Two/Side Two and Song Three/Side Two because they were completely un-memorable tracks - no, really, they were because I cannot even begin to tell you what they were.  Then it was on to this super-sweet and super-fun Sleeper track.

By this point, I was so smitten with this guy that I was ready to walk the streets of London (as this song suggests), Paris, Milan, Denton (where our school was), or wherever he wanted me to go with him.  It doesn't take much to make a girl like me happy when it comes to music-related tokens or gifts, but this mixed-tape definitely put me up on Cloud 9 for weeks, until that dreadful dinner at Mr. Chopsticks, which I spoke of in The Rentals post.  Oh, I neglected to even mention in that post that he actually admitted to me that he went and got an HIV test after sleeping with the skankalicious Ms. Skanky McSkankerton - yep, that's how repulsive she was!!!  What a shame... what a shame...

We step through London the streets holding onto us
We'll stand where the river bends I hope we fall in
So this time maybe let's take a photograph
We'll burn all the negatives I hope we fall in

It's never going to be this good so just climb in
How long till reason makes us small again
It feels just like we've just got started

It's still you taking me up there
Pretend to be scared then decide that we don't care
Wear ourselves out on the way down
It's still you and the moment you met me
You said I was cheap you were the sale of the century
Greased ourselves up on the way down

And now I touch you I don't know where you begin
Sometimes you're a piece of me I hope we fall in

It's never going to be this good so just climb in
How long till reason makes us small again
It feels just like we've just got started

It's still you taking me up there
Pretend to be scared then decide that we don't care
Wear ourselves out on the way down
It's still you and the moment you met me
You said I was cheap you were the sale of the century
Greased ourselves up on the way down

It's been too long so it can't just be something we ate
I knew we'd go far 'cos we both share the people we hate
It feels just like we just got started

It's still you taking me up there
Pretend to be scared then decide that we don't care
Wear ourselves out on the way down
It's still you and the moment you met me
You said I was cheap you were the sale of the century
Greased ourselves up on the way down
