Week Six: Jesus Jones - "The Devil You Know" - Perverse

Although I anxiously awaited the release of this album, I was so disappointed when I finally got my hands on it.  I wasn't thrilled about the direction they took.  I liked their more danceable, pop music tunes, and it seemed to me like they were trying to gain some type of credibility by going a more edgy, industrial route.

I did, however, love the direction they took their personal looks and style.  Just when I thought the band could not possibly look any cooler than they already did, they went off and exceeded my expectations.  If only the new music could have followed closely behind the new look, I would have been a happy girl.  Sadly, I had to abandon Mike and the boys for other bands at that time who held my attention more.

A life to call our own
That is ours alone
Is as hard as hell to come by these days
Time that I took what's mine, took it now

Things aren't what they were, they're what they are
There's no time of our own

And the devil you know is the only one

Is time too fast for us to grasp something of our own?

The ghost of the past has its arms around me
It moves everywhere in all I hear and see

And the devil you know is the only one

Look at you now, look at you then, see how you will be
All of your life belongs to me

Things aren't what they were, they're what they are
There's no time of our own

And the devil you know is the only one
