Week Seven: Various DFW Area Artists: Tripping Daisy - "My Umbrella" - Bill

Up until I began hearing Tripping Daisy on the EDGE in 1992, it never occurred to me that Dallas, of all places, would be able to turn out a band that appealed to me so much.  All of the bands that I loved the most were from across the pond, and they all felt so far removed from the great State of Texas.

So when Tripping Daisy hit the scene, it was so overwhelmingly exciting to have a band so close to home that was able to elicit the equivalent of the musical butterflies in the tummy that all of my favorite Brit bands were able to do so effortlessly.

I had great difficulty locating the album, Bill, around town in the big chain music stores when it was initially released, and seeing as though I was 2 years short of receiving my license, my kind-hearted mother drove me out to Bill's Records and Tapes, when it was still located at the corner of Spring Valley  & Coit, so that I could finally be the proud owner of this CD.  She probably regretted her decision later on because I played it nonstop for weeks.

I credit Tripping Daisy with fostering a love of local music in me.  Sadly, with my jam-packed schedule of teaching and taking paralegal courses, I do not have the amount of free time that I would like to dedicate to catching local bands play around town.  Hopefully, as I begin to wrap up my paralegal degree and embark upon my final year of teaching, all of that will soon change.

My decision your decision
There's no common ground
I'm sick and tired myself

Don't wake me up don't wave bye bye
Don't jump inside my head this time
I wanna get through this, day ah ah

Singing all those words around drives
My smile right to the ground
I wanna give it away

You make it good but you make me
Crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy
Wanna slap the world and slam it down

Look at all the million people
In the middle of a golden steeple
I am amazed

Well, it might be wrong
But it may be right
Look at us just passing time

Don't let your love fall on down
On my umbrella
I'll say don't let your love fall on down
On my umbrella, yeah, dig it

Look at all the million people
In the middle of a golden steeple
I am amazed

Well, it might be wrong
But it may be right
Look at us on borrowed time

You make it good but you make me
Crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy
Wanna slap the world and slam it down
You make it good but you make me
So high, to try, to show me the way

Running through
A built-in maze ending up
At the starting place I left behind ah ah

Stop and try to catch my breath while I'm
Looking for my next step
I slip away, I slip away

You make it good but you make me
Crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy, crazy
Wanna slap the world and slam it down

Don't let your love fall on down
On my umbrella, I'll say
Don't let your love fall on down
On my umbrella

I'll say you'll say, you'll throw it all  away
No, no, go, no, I'm like a child and I'm lost
For the first time

You say, don't let your love fall down
On my umbrella, yeah
You say, don't let your love fall down
On my umbrella, yeah

You say, don't let your love fall down
On my umbrella, yeah
You say
