Week Sixty-Six: Lollapalooza '93 - Fishbone - "Party at Ground Zero" - The Essential Fishbone

This month marks twenty years since my very first Lollapalooza tour which took place on August 1, 1993, at the Starplex Amphitheater in Dallas, TX

*LOLLAPALOOZA*LOLLAPALOOZA*LOLLAPALOOZA*

Since yesterday's post was a little on the depressing side, I'm going to take you into the weekend as we "Party at Ground Zero" with Fishbone. The DJ at the 80's night at the Art Bar in the Club Clearview complex in Deep Ellum used to play this tune towards the very end of the night, and it was super-duper fun to "skank" your groove thing!!! :-D

Here's a fun Fishbone fact that I read about in one of my music magazines many, many (look at all that alliteration there) years ago and used to try to share with people, but no one ever believed me; therefore, I'm soooooo happy that Wikipedia added it to the Fishbone page:

"John Cusack wears a Fishbone shirt in the film Say Anything.... (In that movie's iconic 'boombox' scene, Cusack is actually blasting Fishbone from the radio. Peter Gabriel's 'In Your Eyes' was added later)."

And since I'm on the topic of Say Anything and since "Skankin' to the Beat" was part of that soundtrack, I'll throw that one in for you today, as well...

Party at ground zero
A "B" movie starring you
And the world will turn to flowing
Pink vapor stew

Johnny, go get your gun, for the commies are in our hemisphere today
Ivan, go fly your MIG, for the Yankee imperialists have come to play
Johnny goes to Sally's house to kiss her goodbye
But Daddy says to spend the night
They make love 'till the early morning light
For tomorrow Johnny goes to fight
Johnny, Ivan, Ian, everybody come along for our nations need new heroes
Time to sing a new war song

[CHORUS]

Please do not fear 'cause Fishbone is here to say (say what?)
Just have a good time the stop sign is far away
The toilet has flushed and green lights are a ghost
And drop drills will be extinct
Speedracer cloud has come
They know not what they've done
Sin has just won
The planet is a crumb

[CHORUS]
