Week Thirty-Two: Pocket Rockers - The Jets - "Cross My Broken Heart" - Magic

Talking about my iPod got me to thinking about all the super-cool music contraptions my parents purchased me when I was younger. My absolute favorite had to be my Pocket Rocker that I got at Toys 'R Us one Christmas... so I am going to take you way back to my Pocket Rocker days.

***Please Note*** - all band information has been pulled straight from Wikipedia because I am coming up on final exams and mock trials for my classes... therefore, my creativity is dwindling --- however, if I do recall something, I will be more than happy to share

Before I share with you any information about The Jets, let me share with you a little bit about what Wikipedia has to say about Pocket Rockers:

"Pocket Rockers was a brand of personal stereo produced by Fisher-Price in the late 1980s, aimed at elementary school-age children. It played a proprietary variety of miniature cassette (appearing to be a smaller version of the 8-track tape) which was released only by Fisher-Price themselves. Each tape had two songs. Tapes were available from several pop stars, including Bon Jovi, Whitney Houston, The Bangles, Tiffany and Debbie Gibson. They were designed to be as much a fashion accessory as a music player, and for a brief period they were enough of a youth craze to be banned in some schools."

Here's a super-fun youtube video for a Pocket Rockers commercial:

Now on to The Jets:

"The Jets are a family band from Minneapolis, Minnesota, composed of brothers and sisters who specialize in pop, R&B, and dance music, particularly Latin freestyle.

The group officially formed in 1985, with the original lineup fizzling out by 1990. Several members of the family stayed on throughout the 1990s, unofficially reviving the group in the mid to late 1990s as a gospel outfit with most of the original members present.

Various record companies have released collections of songs from the group's popular period, while the modern incarnation of the group continues to perform at various small venues, primarily casinos and private corporate functions.

The original band consisted of the eight oldest children of Maikeli "Mike" and Vaké Wolfgramm, who have 17 children in total, fifteen by birth and two (Eddie and Eugene) by adoption, were originally from the South Pacific island kingdom of Tonga. The family is of Tongan, British, and German ancestry. They are members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons)."

And here's the video for "Cross My Broken Heart" which is what they offered for Pocket Rockers; however, since that was not my favorite tune, I am also including "Crush On You" below the lyrics, and as an afterthought, I am also adding "You Got It All" because I completely forgot how much I liked that song and video, as well, until youtube reminded me:

Cross my broken heart, boy
Cross my broken heart for you
I'm going to stay this time

Cross my broken heart, boy
Swear I'll never part from you
I want you to be mine

I know you think I'm not
Your picture perfect jewel
I made us break apart
When everything was cool

I needed to explore
And open up the door
But now I need you more

I'm sending out a message
A message so sincere
When I close my eyes
I need to feel you near

Can't get you off my mind
For leaving me this time
I'm still in love with you

Cross my broken heart, boy
Cross my broken heart for you
I'm going to stay this time

Cross my broken heart, boy
Swear I'll never part from you
I want you to be mine

If I had your attention
I'd tell you what I learned
Despite of good intentions
It's easy to get burned

I learned my lesson well
It's you I need to tell
This time I'm all for you

I need for you to trust me
To give you all my best
I'll prove just what your love means
Just put me to the test

This time I need to stay
Don't need to go away
I'm still in love with you

Cross my broken heart, boy
Cross my broken heart for you
I'm going to stay this time

Cross my broken heart, boy
Swear I'll never part from you
I want you to be mine

You're my morning sun
You're my shining star
You're my number one
Cross my broken heart

In your eyes I see
What you mean to me
You're my destiny

I'm sending out a message
A message so sincere
When I close my eyes
I need to feel you near

Can't get you off my mind
For leaving me this time
I'm still in love with you

You're my morning sun
You're my shining star
You're my number one
Cross my broken heart

In your eyes I see
What you mean to me
You're my destiny

Cross my broken heart, boy
Cross my broken heart for you
I'm going to stay this time

Cross my broken heart, boy
Swear I'll never part from you
I want you to be mine

Cross my broken heart, boy
Cross my broken heart for you
I'm going to stay this time

Cross my broken heart, boy
Swear I'll never part from you
I want you to be mine
