Week Thirty-Three: Echo & The Bunnymen - "The Killing Moon" - Ocean Rain

Echo & The Bunnymen would have to be the one band that I am truly heartbroken that I never got to see perform live --- besides The Shangri-Las, but I wasn't around at the time to partake in their greatness. This is absolutely my favorite Echo & The Bunnymen tune. It is lovely and another spine-chilling song for me.

It has shown up in films like Gia, Grosse Pointe Blank, and Donnnie Darko. Speaking of Gia, if you have never seen that film, you should take some time to watch it. It is about Gia Marie Carangi, who was one of the first supermodels and who sadly died from AIDS. Angelina Jolie portrays Gia in the film and does a phenomenal job. In fact, I am going to include a youtube video of scenes from Gia, along with this tune, below the lyrics.

When I was reading up about this song on Wikipedia, I saw a quote from Ian McCulloch in regards to this tune. Normally, I can't stand it when musicians sing their own praises, but in this case, Mr. McCulloch, I would have to say that I completely agree with you!!!

Ian McCulloch has said: "When I sing 'The Killing Moon' I know there isn't a band in the world who's got a song anywhere near that."

Under blue moon I saw you
So soon you'll take me
Up in your arms
Too late to beg you or cancel it
Though I know it must be the killing time
Unwillingly mine

Fate
Up against your will
Through the thick and thin
He will wait until
You give yourself to him

In starlit nights I saw you
So cruelly you kissed me
Your lips a magic world
Your sky all hung with jewels
The killing moon
Will come too soon

Fate
Up against your will
Through the thick and thin
He will wait until
You give yourself to him

Under blue moon I saw you
So soon you'll take me
Up in your arms
Too late to beg you or cancel it
Though I know it must be the killing time
Unwillingly mine

Fate
Up against your will
Through the thick and thin
He will wait until
You give yourself to him

Fate
Up against your will
Through the thick and thin
He will wait until
You give yourself to him
You give yourself to him

La la la la la...
