Week Seventy-Four: The Cure - "A Night Like This" - The Head On The Door

So today, in addition to this really awesomely intense song, I have a few more treats for you. The first one comes from a copy of Spin - actually it was an anniversary edition - and it is supposedly an actual tube of Robert Smith's lipstick:

And here's a picture of me at some point in 1999 (despite what the photo date says), sporting my best Robert Smith-inspired blue-black hair and reddest red lips. Yes, my lower lip is pierced in that photo. And the blood-shot eyes, I guarantee you, were from consuming one too many Vodka-7's that night... in fact, the other half of the picture was the guy that I mentioned yesterday, but I cut him out of that photo years and years ago!!! :-D

And I had a former coworker text me the cartoon below, which I still laugh at every time I see it:

So The Cure actually played "A Night Like This" at the 2008 show. I was as pleased as could be when I heard the opening notes, but I must admit that I was also a bit perplexed when I saw most people use it as an opportunity to sit down and catch their breath after a few of the more pop-inspired/dance-worthy tunes... Seriously?!?!?! It was shocking to say the least. I will also include another lovely tune for you today called "To The Sky"...

Say goodbye on a night like this
If it's the last thing we ever do
You never looked as lost as this
Sometimes it doesn't even look like you
It goes dark
It goes darker still
Please stay
But I watch you like I'm made of stone
As you walk away

I'm coming to find you if it takes me all night
A witch hunt for another girl
For always and ever is always for you
Your trust
The most gorgeously stupid thing I ever cut in the world

Say hello on a day like today
Say it everytime you move
The way that you look at me now
Makes me wish I was you
It goes deep
It goes deeper still
This touch
And the smile and the shake of your head

I'm coming to find you if it takes me all night
Can't stand here like this anymore
For always and ever is always for you
I want it to be perfect
Like before
I want to change it all

I want to change
