Week Four: Various Duets - Johnny Cash & June Carter Cash - "It Ain't Me, Babe" - The Essential Johnny Cash

Although I am fully aware that this is a Bob Dylan song, I think it is incredibly fitting for these two lovely souls to be singing it.  I come from a very long line of Johnny Cash fans in my family, but I never really took a great interest in his work or life until the film, Walk the Line, with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon.

After viewing the film, I became so intrigued with Johnny's complete dedication and devotion to June.  Although she definitely put up a good fight against his initial advances, his persistent pursuit of her won her heart in the end... and they lived happily ever after (or at least I would like to think so)!

Go away from my window
Leave at your own chosen speed
I'm not the one you want, babe
I'm not the one you need
You say you're lookin' for someone
Who's never weak but always strong
To protect you and defend you
Whether you are right or wrong
Someone to open each and every door

[CHORUS:]
But it ain't me babe
No, no, no, it ain't me babe
It ain't me you're lookin' for, babe

Go lightly from the ledge, babe
Go lightly on the ground
I'm not the one you want, babe
I'll only let you down
You say you're lookin' for someone
Who'll promise never to part
Someone to close his eyes to you
Someone to close his heart
Someone to die for you and more

[REPEAT CHORUS]

You say you're lookin' for someone
To pick you up each time you fall
To gather flowers constantly
And to come each time you call
And will love you for your life
And nothin' more

[REPEAT CHORUS]
