*******************************************************

Ha! So what I remember about this song is that, one summer, my parents sent me on a Catholic teen retreat that was held on the campus of Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Every evening, we would have to go to the auditorium and sing Christian songs and have these big ol' lame pow-wows with all of the other attendees.

One evening, out of the blue, one of the retreat leaders started playing this song, and another joined in singing. I swear that I fell in love with both of them right then and there!!! I was 13-years-old... I fell in love with everyone at the drop of a hat!!!

One of the band members of Extreme is named Nuno Bettencourt... seriously, how could you not be famous with a name like Nuno Bettencourt?!?!?

Well, anyway, Nuno gives an explanation for this song, care of Wikipedia:

"The song was described by Bettencourt as a song warning that the phrase 'I love you' was becoming meaningless: 'People use it so easily and so lightly that they think you can say that and fix everything, or you can say that and everything's OK. Sometimes you have to do more and you have to show it—there's other ways to say 'I love you.'"

I'll include another one of their hits called "Hole Hearted" for you today, as well...

Saying "I love you"
Is not the words I want to hear from you
It's not that I want you
Not to say, but if you only knew how easy
It would be to show me how you feel

More than words
Is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
'Cause I'd already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two?
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away?
Then you couldn't make things new
Just by saying "I love you"

More than words

Now that I've tried to talk to you
And make you understand
All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hands
And touch me
Hold me close, don't ever let me go
More than words
Is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
'Cause I'd already know

What would you do if my heart was torn in two?
More than words to show you feel
That your love for me is real
What would you say if I took those words away?
Then you couldn't make things new
just by saying "I love you"

More than words
More than words
