Week Ninety-Nine: Songs of '99 - Lou Bega - "Mambo No. 5 (A Little Bit of...)" - A Little Bit of Mambo

For Week Ninety-Nine, I'm going to cover songs/albums that were released in '99
@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@^@

This song is soooooo much fun, but I know nothing about it or the artist; so all of today's info is coming from Wikipedia:

"'Mambo No. 5' is a mambo and jive dance song originally recorded and composed by Cuban Dámaso Pérez Prado in 1949."

"The song's popularity was renewed by German artist Lou Bega's sampling and vocal version of the original, released under the same name on Bega's 1999 debut album A Little Bit of Mambo."

"Lou Bega's cover was a hit in the United Kingdom, and Australia, where it reached number one in 1999. It stayed at number one in Australia for eight weeks, ultimately becoming the best-selling single of the year. It also topped almost every chart in continental Europe, including Bega's home country, Germany, and set a record by staying at number one in France for 20 weeks (longer than any stay at the top spot ever on the US or UK charts). The song reached number three on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US on November 2, 1999, giving Bega his only Top 40 hit in the US."

"The music video, directed by Jorn Heitmann, features Lou Bega singing and dancing with flappers, possibly a homage to the music of the 1920s and 1930s. The video includes clips of old-style movies and newsreels showing trumpets, big bands and the like."

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Mambo No. 5,

One, two , three four, five
everybody in the car so come on let's ride
To the liqueur-store around the corner,
the boys say they want some gin and juice
but I really don't wanna
beerbust like I had last week
I must stay deep 'cause talk is a cheap
I like Angela, Pamela, Sandra and Rita
and as I continue you know they're gettin' sweeta
so what can I do I really beg you my Lord
to me flirtin' it's just like a sport
anything fly it's all good let me dump it
please send in the trumpet

a little bit of Monica in my life
a little bit of Erica by my side
a little bit of Rita is all I need
a little bit of Tina is what I see
a little bit of Sandra in the sun
a little bit of Mary all night long
a little bit of Jessica here I am
a little bit of you makes me your man

Mambo No. 5!

Jump up and down and move it all around
shake your head to the sound put your hands on the ground
take one step left and one step right
one to the front and one to the side
clap your hands once and clap your hands twice
and if it looks like this then you doin' it right

a little bit of Monica in my life
a little bit of Erica by my side
a little bit of Rita is all I need
a little bit of Tina is what I see
a little bit of Sandra in the sun
a little bit of Mary all night long
a little bit of Jessica here I am
a little bit of you makes me your man

Trumpet, the Trumpet!

Mambo No. 5!

a little bit of Monica in my life
a little bit of Erica by my side
a little bit of Rita is all I need
a little bit of Tina is what I see
a little bit of Sandra in the sun
a little bit of Mary all night long
a little bit of Jessica here I am
a little bit of you makes me your man

I do all to fall in love with a girl like you
You can't run and you can't hide you and me gonna touch the sky

Mambo No. 5!
