Week Seventy-Nine: Sunday Songs - Joe Jackson - "Sunday Papers" - Look Sharp!

I'm not sure if I have mentioned this or not, but I typically compose my posts for the entire week on Sunday, and then I update each daily post as events unfold in my life. I was having a bit of a difficult time coming up with a theme for this week; so since we technically got an extra hour on Sunday, 11/3, I figured I would do a Sunday celebration and cover songs that have Sunday in the title

S*U*N*D*A*Y*F*U*N*D*A*Y*S*U*N*D*A*Y*F*U*N*D*A*Y

I had completely forgotten about this tune until I just recently heard it on 1st Wave on Sirius. I knew I was eventually going to have a Sunday-themed week, but I was having a difficult time deciding on which songs to include --- there are more than you think!!!

Then out of nowhere, one day I heard Joe Jackson on the radio singing about the Sunday papers, and I knew it was meant to be. I cannot stress enough how in love I am with the 1st Wave station. I am seriously considering subscribing to Sirius just for the convenience of being able to turn on my car stereo to hear many long-forgotten favorites!!!

This is not, however, my favorite Joe Jackson tune... it is a toss-up between "Steppin' Out" and "Is She Really Going Out With Him?"... so I will also include those for you today...

Mother doesn't go out any more
Just sits at home and rolls her spastic eyes
But every weekend through the door
Come words of wisdom from the world outside

If you want to know 'bout the bishop and the actress
If you want to know how to be a star
If you want to know 'bout the stains on the mattress
You can read it in the Sunday papers, Sunday papers

Mother's wheelchair stays out in the hall
Why should she go out when the TV's on
Whatever moves beyond these walls
She'll know the facts when Sunday comes along

If you want to know 'bout the man gone bonkers
If you want to know how to play guitar
If you want to know 'bout any other suckers
You can read it in the Sunday papers, read it in the Sunday papers

Sunday papers don't ask no questions
Sunday papers don't get no lies
Sunday papers don't raise objection
Sunday papers ain't got no eyes

Brother's heading that way now I guess
He just read something made his face turn blue
Well I got nothing against the press
They wouldn't print it if it wasn't true

If you want to know 'bout the gay politician
If you want to know how to drive your car
If you want to know 'bout the new sex position
You can read it in the Sunday papers, read it in the Sunday papers

Sunday papers don't ask no questions
Sunday papers don't get no lies
Sunday papers don't raise objection
Sunday papers ain't got no eyes

Sunday papers don't ask no questions
Sunday papers don't get no lies
Sunday papers don't raise objection
Sunday papers ain't got no eyes

Read all about it, Sunday papers
