Week Eighty: Electronic - "Getting Away With It" - Electronic

In honor of Johnny Marr passing through Dallas a few days ago and stopping by The Granada Theater - (I unfortunately did not make it out to the show), I figured that I would cover Electronic this week, as I promised you I eventually would...

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Boy, do I ever have a complete love/hate relationship with this one, and I'll tell you why in just a minute!!! First I will share with you that this is yet another Electronic song on which Neil Tennant contributes the vocals.

Now, before I get to the hate aspect, I will first share the love aspects. I love when rock/pop/electronic (ha!) songs are able to effortlessly incorporate orchestral sounds. Additionally, it's really tough to top Johnny Marr's guitar playing. It's just overall a really pleasant-sounding song.

The reason that I hate this song is because the lyrics are poking fun at Morrissey... yes, Morrissey. On top of that, it was a group effort amongst Sumner, Marr, and Tennant to use this song as an opportunity to make fun of Moz and his depressive nature.

I fully understand that Moz has taken a jab or two at individuals in his lyrics...and I'm not here to judge whether anyone's behavior is necessarily right or wrong...so that's why I'll end today's post right here!!!
