Week Eighty-One: Radiohead - "No Surprises" - OK Computer

As I previously mentioned, I own an anniversary edition of Spin magazine, and it possesses so many little treasures. One of those treasures is a quote by Thom Yorke, lead singer of Radiohead. I love when bands/band members are not afraid to poke fun at themselves, just as Thom does below:

Another fun bit of info that was included in the same issue was a list of Readers' Poll Results. In 1997, Radiohead absolutely dominated the Readers' Poll:

"No Surprises" is such a lovely song. It has an incredible lullaby-like quality to it. Every time I hear the opening notes, it reminds me of the ballerina jewelry box (pictured below) that I asked for a few years ago and received from an ex:

A heart that's full up like a landfill
A job that slowly kills you
Bruises that won't heal

You look so tired and unhappy
Bring down the government
They don't, they don't speak for us
I'll take a quiet life
A handshake of carbon monoxide

No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
Silent, silent

This is my final fit, my final bellyache with

No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises
No alarms and no surprises please

Such a pretty house, and such a pretty garden

No alarms and no surprises (let me out of here)
No alarms and no surprises (let me out of here)
No alarms and no surprises please (let me out of here)
