Week Fifty-Eight: Guilty Pleasures - Urban Dance Squad - "Deeper Shade of Soul" - Mental Floss for the Globe

Since I have spent a great deal of time this past year attempting to impress you with my musical selections and memorabilia, this week I am going to introduce you to my guilty pleasures. These are songs that may leave you scratching your head and asking: "She likes whaaaat?!?!?" I just hope you will still be able to respect me in the morning!!! :-D

Also, I will have to pull all band info from Wikipedia because I don't know much about any of these artists, other than the fact that I like these somewhat goofy songs!!!
*****************************************************************

I will start out by sharing with you that this video was a huge hit with me and my friends when I was in junior high, primarily because it had skateboarders. My friends and I were madly in love with skateboarders. We used to hang out around the stores, Fast Forward and Journey's, at Town East Mall because that was where they sold lots of skate gear. We convinced ourselves that even the most unattractive guy could up his attractiveness factor simply by toting around a skateboard --- really, we did... I'm not joking here!!!

And now I'll share with you what Wikipedia has to say about Urban Dance Squad and "Deeper Shade of Soul":

"Urban Dance Squad was a Dutch rap rock band formed after what was originally intended as a one-time jam-session at a festival in Utrecht on December 20, 1986. The band consisted of a guitarist, a bassist, a drummer, a rapper and a DJ. Their music is described as a blend of genres, including funk, soul, heavy metal, hip hop, reggae, jazz and ska and is often compared to that of Rage Against the Machine, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Fishbone. Urban Dance Squad were one of the most successful Dutch bands of the nineties, releasing five studio albums."

"The band recorded its first album, Mental Floss for the Globe, in Brussels in 1989 (produced by Jean-Marie Aerts, of TC Matic), and came to instant success. It won an Edison Award, and the single 'Deeper Shade of Soul' was a hit in Europe and even in the United States, where it charted at number 21 in the United States on Billboard Hot 100. Two more singles were released from the album, and Urban Dance Squad toured the US in 1991, opening up for Living Colour--The Pittsburgh Press described their music as 'refried Zeppelin riffs and neo-Hendrix guitar solos complete with sound effects and old soul records to produce an exceedingly loud, densely packed, dissonant garage-rock stew.'"

Surprise, surprise
So you rub your eyes
Never knew uds, so cool as ice?
Hear the vibes man, they'll stupefy
Ducks - categorize us as hard criers
That's a lie, we know why we're occupiers
No blurs, but obscure styles, these are higher
Profiles are low - as soon as we go
As a breeze straight from a deeper shade of soul

Five souls play the head role
Excite the middle between the two poles
The globe rotates from new to old
Uds take both to reach the souls
Narrowmind clydes, still holding a pose
What we pour 'n flow when we come close
To the contrary, they pinch their earlobes
They call it rogue-rock, but it's a deeper shade of soul

We blend everything, with the color of skin
Under the skin, we're in like Flynn
Ducks stare at us, as soon as we begin
To innovate the frame of thought they're in
Again, music's got to do with only feeling
Not where you're from, it's 'can' they yield in
The stuff that we rock and what we're giving
A piece of the mind connects the rhythm
