Week One Hundred and One: Rainy Day Songs - The Carpenters - "Rainy Days and Mondays" - Carpenters

Seriously now...enough with the rain already!!! All week long, I look out my office window and see the sun shining and birds chirping and people frolicking. Then on the weekends, it's gloomy and raining. I can't take it anymore --- I need sunshine!!!

So, this week, I guess that instead of moping around about all this rainy weather, I'll just try to use it as inspiration for a theme.

The slightly humorous part is that, back in my Gothic phase, I used to love rainy days more than I ever loved sunny days. Sunshine would full-on piss me off actually!!! Now, I am the complete opposite. Consistent rain and gloominess really bring me down, and sunshine lifts my spirits... as cliched as that sounds.

Don't even get me started on Mondays...I have never, ever liked those...ever!!!

Here's some info from Wikipedia about today's song:

"'Rainy Days and Mondays' is a 1971 song by The Carpenters that went to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and it was the duo's fourth #1 song on the Adult Contemporary singles chart. However, the song failed to chart in the United Kingdom until it went to #63 in a reissue there in 1993. 'Rainy Days and Mondays' was certified Gold by the RIAA.

The song was composed in 1971 by then fairly unknown composers Roger Nichols and Paul Williams. It was released as the first track on the album Carpenters. The B-side on the single is 'Saturday'.

Olivia Newton-John, one of Karen's best friends, recorded a cover version of this song on her album Indigo: Women of Song as a tribute to Karen."

Talkin' to myself and feeling old.

Sometimes I'd like to quit;

Nothing ever seems to fit;

Hangin' around, nothing to do but frown;

Rainy days and Mondays always get me down

What I've got they used to call the blues:

Nothin' is really wrong;

Feelin' like I don't belong;

Walkin' around, some kind of lonely clown;

Rainy days and Mondays always get me down

Funny, but it seems that I always wind up-a here with you;

Nice to know somebody loves me.

Funny, but it seems that it's the only thing to do:

Run and find the one who loves me.

(*) What I feel is come and gone before:

No need to talk it out;

We know what it's all about.

Hangin' around, nothing to do but frown;

Rainy days and Mondays always get me down

Funny but it seems that it's the only thing to do,

Run and find the one who loves me

Repeat (*)

Hangin' around, nothing to do but frown;

Rainy days and Mondays always get me down
