Week One Hundred and Forty-Nine: Portishead - "Glory Box" - Dummy

After I posted last week's song, "Rock Star (Olympia)", I remembered that there was a scene from the film, Stealing Beauty, where Liv Tyler's character, Lucy, sings that song at the top of her lungs after she gets pissed off at some of the other characters in the film. I considered going back into the post and mentioning that tid bit of information, but then I also remembered that Portishead's tune "Glory Box" was used in the trailer for the film. So, instead, I decided to make a post about "Glory Box" this week and mention both of the songs' appearances in the film.

I'm not sure why, but I never really got into Portishead's music much more than "Glory Box" and "Sour Times", which I will also include for you today. In addition, I will include the trailer for Stealing Beauty, a film that you should definitely watch if you've never seen it. It is set in a Tuscan villa with breathtakingly beautiful landscapes.

Additionally, here's some info from Wikipedia about the "Glory Box" video:

"The music video is set in the 1950s, featuring lead singer Beth Gibbons as a jazz singer at a club while various office workers watch her perform. Sexual tension begins to rise between certain characters, as eventually, all of the workers, as separate couples, attend the club where Beth is performing. Apart from the band members, the entire cast of the video appear in drag."

I'm so tired of playing
Playing with this bow and arrow
Gonna give my heart away
Leave it to the other girls to play
For I've been a temptress too long

Just...

Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be a woman
I just wanna be a woman

From this time, unchained
We're all looking at a different picture
Through this new frame of mind
A thousand flowers could bloom
Move over and give us some room

Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be a woman
I just wanna be a woman

[INSTRUMENTAL]

So don't you stop being a man
Just take a little look from outside when you can
Show a little tenderness
No matter if you cry

Give me a reason to love you
Give me a reason to be a woman
It's all I wanna be is all woman

For this is the beginning of forever and ever

It's time to move over...
