Week Twenty-Nine: Porno for Pyros - "Pets" - Porno for Pyros

Week Twenty-Nine marks the fifteenth anniversary of my first, and only, time to see Jane's Addiction in concert at the Fair Park Coliseum on November 18, 1997 - sorry it's so difficult to see the ticket stub; it faded like crazy... I am also going throw in some Porno for Pyros this week since that was one of Perry's other noble efforts:

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

I'm sure that I've mentioned this multiple times already, but being a junior high teacher is one of the most difficult jobs that I have ever had. Not only do I have to deal with piss-poor attitudes and emotional immaturity, but when you also factor in all the puberty issues, it just produces great amounts of drama and pandemonium at any given moment!!!

And don't even get me started on their totally inappropriate questions... I have been asked everything from: "Do you think the Pope masturbates?" to "Can I draw testicles on my alien?" - at least that kid meant tentacles, but I'm guessing that he had testicles on the brain.

At one point, a student asked me if I thought that Martians were real. I wasn't exactly sure how to answer that one because it is not always easy to determine the sincerity behind their questions. However, for whatever reason, this song popped into my head. I explained that I absolutely thought that they were, and if they ever decide to come down here, they will do a far better job than we have done... and we'll make great pets. The look on the kid's face was priceless... she never asked me my feelings about Martians again!!

Children are innocent
A teenager's f*cked up in the head
Adults are even more f*cked up
And elderlies are like children

Will there be another race
To come along and take over for us?
Maybe Martians could do
Better than we've done
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!

My friend says we're like the dinosaurs
Only we are doing ourselves in
Much faster than they
Ever did
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!

We will make great pets
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We will make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!
We'll make great pets!

Week Twenty-Nine: Porno for Pyros - "Tahitian Moon" - Good God's Urge

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone who is celebrating today!!

This was yet another tune that I was introduced to through the promo CD that was sent with my CMJ New Music Monthly magazine. This song totally rocks and is so packed with energy. However, if you have ever seen the video, then you probably will agree with me that Perry looks like a total goober in it. It's so difficult to look at him with that ridiculous haircut after seeing him for so many years in his super-cool dreads. I am also including my other favorite from this album (below the lyrics) called "100 Ways"...

My boat's capsized it's gonna sink to the bottom
I can see the lights on the shore getting farther away
I don't if I'll make home tonight
But I know I can swim under the Tahitian moon

I came out here tonight to look for my friend
I don't know if I'll ever get to see him again
I don't know if I'll make home tonight
But I know I can swim under the Tahitian moon
One last time under the Tahitian moon

The sea is a very easy place to disappear
To drift away, to fall asleep, or make your peace (make your peace)

I came out here tonight to look for my friend
I don't know if I'll ever get to see him again
I don't know if I'll make home tonight
But I know I can swim under the Tahitian moon
I can swim under the Tahitian moon
I can swim under the Tahitian moon
I can swim under the Tahitian moon
I can swim...

Week Twenty-Nine: Jane's Addiction - "Three Days" - Ritual de lo Habitual

Week Twenty-Nine marks the fifteenth anniversary of my first, and only, time to see Jane's Addiction in concert at the Fair Park Coliseum on November 18, 1997 - sorry it's so difficult to see the ticket stub; it faded like crazy... I am also going throw in some Porno for Pyros this week since that was one of Perry's other noble efforts:

I am completely ripping today's post off of the youtube video information which was completely ripped off of the janesaddiction.org site.  However, there is an actual and factual story behind this tune, and there is no one better to explain it than Perry himself.

What I will offer you that comes from my music memorabilia collection is the newspaper clipping from the day after the show. Interestingly enough, the writer referred to this tune as "Three Strange Days" in the review.  "Three Strange Days" is actually a tune by School of Fish. I bet Perry would be pissed if he knew she wrote that!!

Synopsis:

Written by alternative rock band Jane's Addiction, "Three Days" was inspired by Xiola Blue, who came to Los Angeles for her father's funeral, and spent three days with frontman Farrell and his girlfriend in what was quoted as "a haze of sex and drugs." Though the song was written prior to Xiola Blue's death of a heroin overdose in 1987, the song was released in 1990, and the poem at the beginning makes light of this, in memory. The guitar solo is also ranked as #100 on Guitar World's Best Guitar Solos of all time.

Opening Poem:

At this moment
you should be with us
feeling like we do
like you love to
but never will again
I miss you my dear Xiola

I prepared the room tonight
with Christmas lights
a city of candles
fresh sheets
we are all filled with dense clouds
that have us sunk into the mattress
I need to touch your skin...

an alien she was...

No one made friends as easily as Xiola...

Drug pushing constructors
We were always in the audience that plagued her.
One night I met a poet...

Lyrics:

Three days was the morning
My focus three days old
My head, it landed, to the sound of cricket bows...
I am a proud man anyway...
Covered now by three days...

Three days was the morning
Three lovers, in three ways
We knew when she landed, three days she'd stay
I am a proud man anyway...
Covered now by three days...

We saw shadows of the morning light
The shadows of the evening sun
Till the shadows and the lights were one
We saw shadows of the morning light
The shadows of the evening sun
Till the shadows and the lights were one...

True hunting is over
No herds to follow
Without game, men prey on each other
The family weakens by the bite we swallow...

True leaders gone, of land and people
We choose no kin but adopted strangers
The family weakens by the lengths we travel...
All of us with wings...
All of us with wings...
All of us with wings!
All of us with wings!
All of us with wings!
All of us with wings!

Erotic Jesus lays with his Marys
Loves his Marys
Bits of puzzle, fitting each other

All of us with wings!
"Oh my Marys!
Never wonder...
Night is shelter from nudity's shiver..."
All of us with wings...
