Week One Hundred and Forty-Three: Inspiral Carpets - "This Is How It Feels" - Life

If you were as lucky enough as I was to come of age in the '90s, then you most certainly heard the term, "Madchester", a time or two. The Inspiral Carpets, along with many other bands I have covered on this blog, like The Stone Roses, James, The Charlatans, The Mock Turtles, The Farm, EMF, and Blur, were all part of the Madchester movement.

The predecessors to and influences on this movement were none other than The Smiths and New Order, so it should come as absolutely no surprise that I was an avid fan of most of the Madchester bands.

Today, in addition to the video for "This Is How It Feels", I am also including a few of my other favorites called "Two Worlds Collide" and "Saturn 5"...

Husband don't know what he's done
Kids don't know what's wrong with mum
She can't say, they can't see
Putting it down to another bad day
Daddy don't know what he's done
Kids don't know what's wrong with mum
So this is how it feels to be lonely
This is how it feels to be small
This is how it feels when your word
Means nothing at all
Black car drives through the town
Some guy from the top estate
Left a note for a local girl
And yet he had it all on a plate
So this is how it feels to be lonely
This is how it feels to be small
This is how it feels when your word
Means nothing at all
Husband don't know what he's done
Kids don't know what's wrong with mum
She can't say, they can't see
Putting it down to another bad day
So this is how it feels to be lonely
This is how it feels to be small
This is how it feels when your word
Means nothing at all
So this is how it feels to be lonely
This is how it feels to be small
This is how it feels when your word
Means nothing at all
Nothing at all
Nothing at all

Week One Hundred and Forty-Two: Combo Audio - "Romanticide" - Living in Oblivion: The 80's Greatest Hits - Volume One

When I was out running my errands yesterday, I heard this one on 1st Wave on Sirius XM.  However, the first time I ever heard it was when I acquired a copy of Living in Oblivion: The 80's Greatest Hits - Volume One back in 1994.  As soon as the opening beats to this song blasted out of my car stereo, I fell in love with this song immediately.

I will include scans of the cover, the liner photo, the liner notes, and my actual cassette, which you can see was popped in and out of my cassette deck so many times that the script is wearing off:

Additionally, Combo Audio created two different versions of the video for this tune; so I will include both of those for you today!

It wasn't like movies
In movies they work it out
Laughing at those hearts broken open
You walked in, you threw me out
Sitting in a restaurant by myself
Couldn't leave a tip
Wonder where you are, what you're doing, who you're with

It's a clear cut case
Romanticide, on the side, oh yeah
It's a clear cut case
Romanticide, on the side, oh yeah

You are your best company
Until you sit by yourself
Call up your best friends and acquaintances
Can't cure dropped lover's emotional health
Sitting in a restaurant by myself
Couldn't leave a tip
Wonder where you are, what you're doing, who you're with

It's a clear cut case
Romanticide, on the side, oh yeah
It's a clear cut case
Romanticide, two men on the side, oh yeah

It's not losing you
It's just feeling lost

It wasn't like movies
In movies they work it out
Laughing at those hearts broken open
You walked in, you threw me out
Sitting in a restaurant by myself
Couldn't leave a tip
Wonder where you are, what you're doing, who you're with

It's a clear cut case
Romanticide, on the side, oh yeah
It's a clear cut case
Romanticide, on the side, oh yeah
It's a clear cut case
Romanticide, two men on the side, oh yeah
It's a clear cut case
Romanticide

Week One Hundred and Forty-One: Caesars - "Jerk It Out" - Single

It's been an incredibly cold and rainy weekend here in Dallas, Texas, which means I have spent a substantial amount of time indoors with Pandora.

This morning, when I was getting ready to make a quick run up to Natural Grocers to purchase a few items, this song came on my *shuffle* mix which is currently set to Mazzy Star Radio and Britpop Radio.

I don't know a thing about this band or song, other than it gets me kind of pumped every time I hear it, so I will have to resort to Wikipedia for help today:

"'Jerk It Out' is a song by Swedish group Caesars. It was released in April 2003 as the lead single from their album Love for the Streets; it is also featured on the follow-up Paper Tigers in remixed form. Furthermore, it has been used in the soundtrack of FIFA 2004, SSX 3 and LMA Manager 2005. It was used in the trailers for Clerks II and Knight and Day. The song was also featured in the 2006 film The Benchwarmers."

"The song was originally released in 2003 and only made an appearance on the UK Singles Chart (at a #60 showing). It was re-released in 2005 and appeared on their album of that year, Paper Tigers. The re-release peaked at #8 on the UK Singles Chart, #70 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #40 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. It was also used in Coca-Cola campaign in 2007."

So, there you go... I wish I had more to add, but this is just one of those rare treats that appears on occasion. However, I wanted to share it with you just in case you had never been fortunate enough to hear it!!

Wind me up, put me down
start me up and watch me go.
I'll be running circles around
you sooner than you know.
A little off center and I'm out of tune.
Just kickin' this can along the avenue,
but I'm alright.

Chorus:
'Cause it's easy once you know how it's done,
and you can't stop now it's already begun,
you feel it running through your bones.
Then you jerk it out... when you jerk it out

Shut up, hush him now,
can't you hear you talk too loud.
no I can't hear nothing 'cause
I got my head up in the clouds
I'll bite off anything that I can chew
I'm chasing cars up and down the avenue
but that's OK

Chorus(x2)

(Jerk It Out,
oh baby don't you know
you really got to jerk it out)x3

Week One Hundred and Forty: Live - "All Over You" - Throwing Copper

My dear little iPod is still barely alive and still barely kicking (i.e., it has to remain plugged in because it won't hold a charge for longer than roughly an hour). However, it played this song for me the other day, while on *shuffle*, and I realized that I had not covered this band as of yet.

I have had the pleasure of seeing Live play live (ha!) at quite a few different festivals, and they were phenomenal each and every time. They always sounded just as precise as their recordings.

Live also reminds me of one of my older brother's friends named Brandon. Brandon loved the band, Live. Brandon actually lived with us for awhile, and even though he was like another brother to me, he and I made a marriage pact (i.e., that if I was not married by the time I was 40, he and I would get hitched). Fortunately, he is now married because I am right around the corner from 40, and I have no desire to get married... EVER!!!

Brandon was the one who took the photo of me that resembles Casey Niccoli. You might remember it from one of my Halloween posts:

As I was making my other selections of videos for this band while combing through YouTube, I read some of the comments, and I realized just how lucky I was to grow up in the '90s. We were blessed with some awesome music, indeed! I will include some of my other favorites called: "Selling the Drama", "Operation Spirit (The Tyranny of Tradition)", and "Pain Lies on the Riverside"... Don't sell yourself short, though; definitely check out some of their other tunes...

Our love is like water
Pinned down and abused for bein' strange
Our love is no other
Than me alone for me all day
Our love is like water pinned down and abused

All over you, all over me
The sun, the fields, the sky
I've often tried to hold
The sea, the sun, the fields, the tide
Pay me now, lay me down

Our love is like water
Pinned down and abused for bein' strange
Our love is no other
Than me alone for me all day
Our love is like angel pinned down and abused

All over you, all over me
The sun, the fields, the sky
I've often tried to hold
The sea, the sun, the fields, the tide
Pay me now, lay me down
Pay me now, pay me now
Lay me down, lay me down, lay me down

All over you, all over me
All over you, all over me
Pay me now, lay me down, down
Pay me now, pay me now
Lay me down, lay me down, lay

Our love is like water
Pinned down and abused for bein' strange
Our love is no other
Than me alone

All over you, all over me
The sun, the fields, the sky
I've often tried to hold
The sea, the sun, the fields, the tide
Pay me now, lay me down, down
Pay me now, pay me now
Lay me down, lay me down, lay
