Post #633: The Vogues - "You're The One" - You're The One

So, I'm not exactly sure why, but I've been on a natural and healthy kick lately.  Therefore, in addition to exploring the wonderful world of essential oils, I have also decided to go back to using henna & indigo to dye my hair.  OH MY GOODNESS, why in the world I ever switched to synthetic boxed dyes will forever be a mystery to me... oh wait, I remember.  Well, you see, it takes twelve (12) hours for the henna powder to mix with the acidic liquid of your choosing, and then it takes an additional four (4) hours of the odd-smelling gloopy, gloppy green paste sitting on your head and running down your neck and face, in order for the entire ordeal to be complete.  However, the lovely color and silky condition of my hair is worth every penny to have those over-priced plant-based powders shipped to my humble abode, and I'm not being snarky here.  In fact, if my hair could sing a song to its beloved henna & indigo, which it has obviously missed for the past few years, I am almost certain that it would be this one, which is actually a cover of a Petula Clark tune; so I will include her version too!  Enjoy!!!

Until next time...

XOXOXO

Every time we meet, everything is sweet
Ooh, you're so tender, I must surrender
My love is your love, now and forever
You're the one that I long to kiss
Baby, you're the one that I really miss
You're the one that I'm dreaming of
Baby, you're the one that I love
Keep me in your heart never let us part
Ooh, never leave me please don't deceive me
I want you only, you must believe me
You're the one that I long to kiss
Baby, you're the one that I really miss
You're the one that I'm dreaming of
Baby, you're the one that I love
I adore you and no one before you
Could make me feel this way since I met you
I just can't forget you, I love you more each day
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
There may be some tears through the coming years
Ooh, all the while I know you'll be smilin'
Your love will guide me though every mile 'cause
You're the one that I long to kiss
Baby, you're the one that I really miss
You're the one that I'm dreaming of
Baby, you're the one that I love
You're the one that I long to kiss
Baby, you're the one that I really miss
You're the one that I'm dreaming of
Baby, you're the one that I love
You're the one that I long to kiss

Post #632: Kesang Marstrand - "Skyrocket" - For My Love

Well, lookey here, you're getting two (2) posts in one (1) week... aren't you special???  So, I've been hearing this tune on my way to work almost daily for the past month, and it's so whimsical and magical sounding.  It puts me in a fantastic mood, and it's like a perfect mix of The Cocteau Twins and Sinead O'Connor.

Something else that I've gotten into that I also find quite whimsical, as well as mood-altering (but in a good, healthy way), is mixing essential oils.  I recently made this amazing face cream out of coconut oil, olive oil, frankincense essential oil, and myrrh essential oil.  I mean, seriously, if they were good enough to be gifts for the baby Jesus, then they are definitely good enough to be slapped on my face at night!!  Cleopatra also supposedly used both frankincense and myrrh oils in her beauty routine.  So it seems to be a win-win situation, and it smells amazing and sends me right off to dreamland.

Next up, I plan to tackle a jasmine body spray.  I'm a little bored with smelling like orchids... I think a jasmine scent will be a nice change of pace... maybe I'll even toss in a little lavender or even some rose... Oh, the possibilities are endless!!!

Until next time...

XOXOXO
Anastasia

Out in the driveway
A lit skyrocket
Here comes trouble again

Dizzy ideas
Could be the weather
Low clouds are coming in

You walk right through
Taking over my imagination

A Catherine wheel
A color bomb
Can I kiss you now?

Walking barefoot
In the wet grass
A bright sound spinning out

You walk right through
Taking over my imagination

So who are you, who are you
Who are you this time?

Post #631: Saint Etienne - "Only Love Can Break Your Heart" - Foxbase Alpha

Life is good... that is all!  So, enjoy this little gem by Saint Etienne, which is actually a cover of a Neil Young song, but I like Saint Etienne's version better. There, I said it... and I'm not taking it back... but I will include Neil Young's version too so that you can form your very own opinion.

Until next time...

When you were young and on your own
How did it feel to be alone
I was always thinking of games that I was playing
Trying to make the best of my time

But only love can break your heart
Try to be sure right from the start
Yes, only love can break your heart
But if your world should fall apart

I have a friend I've never seen
He hides his head inside a dream
Someone should call him and see if he can come out
Try to lose the down that he's found

But only love can break your heart
Try to be sure right from the start
Yes, only love can break your heart
But if your world should fall apart

I was always thinking... I was always thinking...
I was always thinking... I was always thinking...
I was always thinking... I was always thinking...
I was always thinking...

I was always thinking of games that I was playing
I was always thinking of games that I was playing
I was always thinking... I was always thinking...
I was always thinking... I was always thinking... I... I... I... I...
I was always thinking of games that I was playing
I was always thinking of games that I was playing
I was always thinking of games that I was playing
I was always thinking of games that I was playing

Post #630: Lou Reed - "I Love You, Suzanne" - New Sensations

My mother came to spend the weekend with me so that she could see my new place and celebrate Mother's Day.  A few words of wisdom that my mother always reinforced throughout my young life were to get my education and to make sure that I could always take care of myself, which I consider very forward and profound thinking for a woman who was raised in a generation where getting married and having children were still fully expected of every female.  I adore my mother for never making me feel like my existence should center around catering to a man and procreating.  I can never thank her enough for letting me know it was okay to just be me and to stand alone, if and when I need to do so.  My adult life has been so rich and so full and so simple thanks to her incredible prudence and insight.  I hope she will always know how much I appreciate and cherish her for making me strong and independent!!

I love you, mom (a/k/a Suzanne)!!

Until next time...

XOXOXO

You broke my heart and you made me cry
You said that I couldn't dance
But now I'm back to let you know
That I can really make romance

You do what you gotta do
You do everything you can
You do what you wanna do
Hey, but I love you, Suzanne

You do anything once
You try anything twice
You do what you gotta do
Hey, but I love you, Suzanne, hey, hey

Do what you wanna do
You do what you can
You do what you wanna do
But I love you, Suzanne

I love you when you're good
Baby, I love you when you're bad
You do what you gotta do
Hey, but I love you, Suzanne

Do what you wanna do
Hey, baby, do what you can
You do what you wanna do, baby
But I love you, Suzanne

I know you, try anything once, baby
You try anything twice
Do what you gotta do
But I love you, Suzanne

I love you when you're good, baby
I love you when you're bad
Do what you wanna do
Ooohhh, but I love you, Suzanne, hey, hey

Yeah, I love you, Suzanne
I love you, Suzanne
I love you, Suzanne
Oh, sweet ...

Do what you wanna do
Hey, you do what you can
You do what you wanna do
Hey, but I love you, Suzanne

You try anything once
You do anything twice
Do what you wanna do
You know that I love you, Suzanne

Post #629: Dawes - "All Your Favorite Bands" - All Your Favorite Bands

So when I realized that today was May 1st, it suddenly occurred to me that the majority of my exes have birthdays in either May or June.  However, since life lessons have taught me that it is never wise to open doors that have already been closed, I know better than to contact them on said birthdays.  However, I appreciate each and every one of them (even the one who damn well nearly ruined my life) for what he taught me either about the kind of person I do or do not want to be.  So I will send out birthday greetings via the universe to all of my exes who celebrate in May or June... And above wishing you all the happiest birthday ever, "may all your favorite bands stay together"...

Until next time...

XOXOXO
Anastasia

Late night drives and hot french fries and friends around the country
From Charlottesville to good old Santa Fe
When I think of you, you still got on that hat that says, "Let's Party"
I hope that thing is never thrown away

I hope that life without a chaperone is what you thought it'd be
I hope your brother's El Camino runs forever
I hope the world sees the same person that you've always been to me
And may all your favorite bands stay together

Now I'm just waking up and I'm not thinking clearly so don’t quote me
With one eye open, I'm writing you this song
Ain't it funny how some people pop into your head so easily
I haven't seen you in there for so long

I hope that life without a chaperone is what you thought it'd be
I hope your brother's El Camino runs forever
I hope the world sees the same person that you always were to me
And may all your favorite bands stay together

I hope that life without a chaperone is what you thought it'd be
I hope your brother's El Camino runs forever
I hope the world sees the same person that you always were to me
And may all your favorite bands stay together
And may all your favorite bands stay together
