Post #675: Aztec Camera - "Oblivious" - High Land, Hard Rain

Well, my dearest Blogland readers, I wanted to let you know that I will be leaving you for a little while.  I'm starting another blog... but don't worry, I'm not abandoning this one.  I will be posting to both blogs simultaneously.  I just need a bit of time to work on the other one... layouts, ideas for posts, and all that jazz!

I'm not ready to unveil any info about it just yet, but as soon as it's available, you'll be the first to know!!

Before I take my short leave of absence, I wanted to post this amazing song from Aztec Camera called "Oblivious"...

I'll be back before you know it... try not to miss me too much!! :-)

Until next time...

XOXOXO
Anastasia

From the mountain tops down to the sunny street
A different drum is playing a different kind of beat
It's like a mystery that never ends
I see you crying and I want to kill your friends

I hear your footsteps in the street
It won't be long before we meet
It's obvious
Just count me in and count me out and
I'll be waiting for the shout
Oblivious

Met Mo and she's okay, said no one really changed
Got different badges but they wear them just the same
Down by the ballroom I recognized
That flaming fountain in those kindered caring eyes.

I hear your footsteps in the street
It won't be long before we meet
It's obvious
Just count me in and count me out and
I'll be waiting for the shout
Oblivious

I hope it haunts me 'til I'm hopeless
I hope it hits you when you go
And sometimes on the edge of sleeping
It rises up to let me know it's not so deep
I'm not so slow

They're calling all the shots
They call and say they phoned
They'll call us lonely when we're really just alone
And like a funny film, it's kinda cute
They bought the bullets and there's no one left to shoot.

I hear your footsteps in the street
It won't be long before we meet
It's obvious
Just count me in and count me out and
I'll be waiting for the shout
Oblivious...

Post #674: Depeche Mode - "Halo" - Violator

As if I don't already have enough cool events coming up in the near future (see previous post), now I get to add Depeche Mode to this list. My older brother took me to see them back in 2013 when they last passed through town, and this time, I'm returning the favor. Tickets are technically not on sale until Friday, but I took advantage of some of my Citi card perks and scored us some pricey, excellent seats in the pre-sale.

I've already made numerous posts about Depeche Mode, but I don't think I've posted this amazing tune yet...

Until next time...

XOXOXO
Anastasia

You wear guilt
Like shackles on your feet
Like a halo in reverse
I can feel
The discomfort in your seat
And in your head it's worse

There's a pain
A famine in your heart
An aching to be free
Can't you see
All love's luxuries
Are here for you and me

And when our worlds
They fall apart
When the walls come tumbling in
Though we may deserve it
It will be worth it

Bring your chains
Your lips of tragedy
And fall into my arms

And when our worlds
They fall apart
When the walls come tumbling in
Though we may deserve it
It will be worth it

Post #673: The Four Seasons - "Big Girls Don't Cry" - 20th Anniversary Edition Dirty Dancing Soundtrack

I have so many events coming up in the near future that have me giddy with excitement... Psychedelic Furs... road trip to San Antonio... Morrissey... The Pixies!!!

However, the event that has me so over the top with giddiness is the one that I am planning for my 40th birthday. I have decided to take a road trip to Kellerman's, which is actually Mountain Lake Lodge, in Pembroke, Virginia. If Kellerman's sounds familiar, that's because it is the location where portions of the movie, Dirty Dancing, were filmed.

Mountain Lake Lodge actually hosts Dirty Dancing-themed weekends throughout the summer months. I have already booked myself a room for one of those said weekends; however, I am wise enough not to share which weekend in particular in the event some random weirdo stalker is reading this.

My original intention was to fly to Pembroke, but I came to the realization that I would be missing out on a prime opportunity to stop by Graceland and The Grand Ole Opry, both in Tennessee. Therefore, I've taken a few more days off from work in order to make a road trip out of this 40th birthday celebration.

What is even cooler is that this year is the 30th anniversary of the film. My sweet little 10-year-old self had a Dirty Dancing poster hanging on my bedroom wall, and I watched the closing dance scene of the film almost every morning before school during my 5th grade year. To say that I am excited about this trip is a complete and total understatement!!!

Today, I am going to include a clip from the opening scene of the film so that you can see Kellerman's (Mountain Lake Lodge), and don't you worry yourself one bit... I assure you that plenty of pictures and another Dirty Dancing post will be soon to follow after the trip!! I'll post a YouTube video of the full song below the lyrics.

Until next time...

XOXOXO
Anastasia

Big girls don't cry
Big girls don't cry

Big girls don't cry-yi-yi (they don't cry)
Big girls don't cry (who said they don't cry?)
My girl said goodbye-yi-yi (my oh my)
My girl didn't cry (I wonder why)

Told my girl we had to break up
(Silly boy) hoped that she would call my bluff
(Silly boy) then she said to my surprise
"Big girls don't cry"

Big girls don't cry-yi-yi (they don't cry)
Big girls don't cry (who said they don't cry?)

Baby I'm a fool (I'm such a fool)

"Shame on you" your mama said
(Silly girl) "Shame on you, you're cryin' in bed"
(Silly girl) "Shame on you, you told me lies"
Big girls do cry

Big girls don't cr-yi-yi (they don't cry)
Big girls don't cry (that's just an alibi)
Big girls don't cry
Big girls don't cry
Big girls don't cry
Big girls don't cry
Big girls don't cry

Post #672: Bright Eyes - "If Winter Ends" - Letting Off the Happiness

I saw that Conor Oberst is making a stop at the Granada Theater in May. I was never a huge Bright Eyes fan, but I always thought it was super cool that The Faint was on the same small record label as Bright Eyes was --- Saddle Creek Records. You might recall that the band that I played in opened for The Faint when they made their first appearance in Texas at The Slaughterhouse in Denton, which was, in fact, an old slaughterhouse.

I will let today's song speak for itself. I would, however, like to reiterate the following lines: And if the perfect spring is waiting somewhere; Just take me there, just take me there, just take me there...

And I will warn you now that this song is not suitable for work or for little ears!!!

Until next time...

XOXOXO
Anastasia

I dreamt of a fever,
One that would cure me of this cold, winter set heart.
With heat to melt these frozen tears
Burned with reasons as to carry on.
Into these twisted months I plunge without a light to follow
But I swear that I would follow anything
Just get me out of here.
But you get six months to adapt
Then you get two more to leave town.
And in the event that you do adapt
We still might not want you around.
But I fell for the promise of a life with a purpose
But I know that that's impossible now.
And so I drink to stay warm
And to kill selected memories
'cause I just can't think anymore about that
Or about her tonight
But I give myself three days to feel better
Or else I swear I'll drive right off a f*cking cliff
'cause if I can't learn to make myself feel better
How can I expect anyone else to give a sh*t?
And I scream for the sunlight or a car to take me anywhere
Just get me past this dead and eternal snow
'cause I swear that I'm dying, slowly but it's happening
And if the perfect spring is waiting somewhere
Just take me there, just take me there, just take me there
And say, and lie to me, and say, and lie to me, and say
It's going to be alright [x9]
