Happy Birthday to The Soundtrack of a Heartbreak Beat!!!

So as I mentioned on Monday, today is my blog's first birthday. I figured that, since I have made you look at the background of the lips for the past year that was so generously provided by the blogger templates, the least I could do is offer you a new background as a party favor of sorts... and I'll also promise to try to update it more frequently.

My favorite birthdays ever were the ones that I celebrated at the roller rink... in fact, that very same roller rink still stands today and is called Dad's Broadway Skateland. If you ever make it out to Mesquite, TX, and if you're itchin' for a rockin' good rollin' time, you should totally check it out!!!

Since I can't very well invite you to a roller skating party, especially those of you who are "across the pond", the least I can do is offer you my favorite songs to skate to as a kid in order to celebrate today... enjoy!!!

And since Showbiz Pizza Place was my second favorite location to celebrate my birthday, I figured it would be appropriate to include their "Birthday Medley"...

Week Fifty-Two: Matthew Sweet - "I've Been Waiting" - Girlfriend

I loved the album cover for Girlfriend, so I will, of course, include a picture of it for you:

I never knew who it was on the cover, though, until I resorted to Wikipedia, and I discovered something even more interesting about the album:

"The cover of the album features a photograph of actress Tuesday Weld from the late 1950's. Originally called Nothing Lasts, the album was retitled following objections to the title from Weld."

Nothing Lasts was, more likely than not, a reference to the divorce he had just gone through, but apparently, Tuesday Weld did not like the idea of being the "poster child" for that!

Another interesting fact about this album was that it inspired a theater performance, so I will include the title track under the lyrics:

"A theatrical production, also titled Girlfriend and inspired by Sweet's album, debuted in 2010 at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre in Berkeley, CA. The play was written by Todd Almond with songs from the album Girlfriend as well as subsequent Matthew Sweet albums."

Week Fifty-Two: Matthew Sweet - "We're the Same" - 100% Fun

Okay, so although "Where You Get Love" and "Sick of Myself" are my favorite songs by Matthew Sweet, this is definitely my favorite video by him. I love the super-awesome 60's styles and feel that he selected for the video.

Matthew Sweet has turned out some amazing work over the course of his career, and he has even worked very closely with some of my other favorites, like Susanna Hoffs from The Bangles; so I'll include a cover they did of "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding" below the lyrics...
